Welcome to the memorial page for

Anne F. Forslund

February 22, 1929 ~ March 8, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Anne Forslund (nee McColl) died peacefully on March 8, 2017 at the age of 88.  Beloved wife of Carl for over 66 years, Anne lived first and foremost for her family.  She and Carl had five children: daughters Katy (David) who preceded her in death, Betsy (Pat), Karen (Marion), and Barb (Bob) and son Charlie (Cathy); 8 grandchildren: Paul Crane, Don and Sara Seanor, Katy and Ariel Shilling, Madeline Potvin, and Alex and PJ Forslund; and 2 step-grandchildren: Wilson and Liz Crane.  Anne was proud to be the daughter of late architect Alexander McColl and his wife, Marceline and grew up in East Grand Rapids.  In addition to her husband, four of her children and her grandchildren, she is survived by her brother, Dr. John McColl, sister-in-law Mary Forslund and numerous nieces and nephews.  Anne attended the University of Michigan where, shortly after arriving on campus, she met her life partner, Carl.  She later graduated from Calvin College after starting her family.  She loved nature, especially Drummond Island and the American West, and was a keen observer of her surroundings, a quality she strove to instill in her children during walks in the woods.  She was an excellent craftswoman, skilled in many forms of sewing and needlework, and worked for many years at Fabric Village for her friend, Midge Jones.  After Carl retired, they traveled widely, including extended stays in Ecuador, Malawi and Ghana.  She was fascinated by the native culture and crafts of every place she visited and started a folk art gallery to share that fascination with others.  She was a charter member of Mayflower Congregational Church, active for many years in the Priscilla Circle.  Along with Carl, she was an early member of the Nordic Ski Patrol in the Grand Rapids area.  The family is grateful for the care given her by the staff at Raybrook Manor and Faith Hospice.   There will be a celebration of Anne’s life at Mayflower Congregational Church at 2 PM on March 31st with a reception following.  Friends can visit with family on Thursday, March 30 from 4 to 6 PM at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to Eden Children’s Village, an orphanage in Zimbabwe c/o Eden Ministries, 2133 Berkey Ave, Goshen, IN 46526 or to the Drummond Island Ambulance Fund, PO Box 225, Drummond Island, MI 49726.
