Ruth H. Stuart

Ruth Hazard Stuart passed away at 101 years old. She was preceded in death by her son William Alexander Stuart, her husband Alexander Hompe “Sandy” Stuart, and her siblings, Theodore Chester Hazard, William Stuart Hazard, and Margaret St. Clair Filion. She is survived by four children, Sarah Stuart McIlvain (Gary), John Lawrence Stuart (Jari), Elizabeth Stuart Stevens, and Charles Hazard Stuart (Marybeth); eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Ruth was born in Grand Rapids and graduated from St. Mary’s School, Monroe, Michigan, her mother’s high school. She attended Michigan State University. She was an active community volunteer, played tennis until age 78 and golfed until age 92.

In accordance with her request, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal services. Her family will be celebrating her life in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your favorite charity in her name.
