Kathleen "Katie" Helen Hackett age 54, of Coopersville, MI died peacefully from Alzheimer’s Disease and a long list of chronic illnesses on Friday, May 19, 2023. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Helen Hackett and Collins and Gladys Brooks; uncle James Hackett; great aunts Rose (George) Reddin and Elizabeth (William) McDowell, and great uncle John (Viola) Lakos. Katie is survived by her parents, Julie and Tom Hackett; her brothers Christopher and Michael (Anna) Hackett; nieces Rachel, Sarah, and Megan Hackett; nephews Benjamin, Matthew and Andrew Hackett; aunts Patty (Bob) Ayars, and Mary Ruth (David) Andrews; uncle David (Christina) Brooks, and great aunt Viola (John) Brastrom. Katie was a member of the Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan, participated in Special Olympics for many years, and was active in Arts in Motion in Grand Rapids. Until she moved to Coopersville in 2020, she was a regular communicant at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church in Ada, MI. Katie was born at Blytheville Air Force Base, AR and lived in Ankara, TR; Leiston, UK; Detroit, MI; Solon, OH; Brookfield, WI; Duluth, MN; East Stroudsburg, PA; Mohnton, PA; and Grand Rapids, MI. She graduated from Solon High School in 1991 and worked at Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Aftenro Nursing Care, Red Lobster, and Weis Market.
Visitation with her family will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday May 27, at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Dr SE, Ada MI 49301, immediately followed by Katie’s funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Following the Mass will be a complimentary luncheon at Newminster Hall at St. Robert’s.
