John A. Nowak age 95, joined his wife, Mary, in the presence of the Lord on Friday, April 19, 2024. John was born on October 12, 1929, to John and Elizabeth (nee Kloska) Nowak in Hopkins Township. He attended Wayland High School and helped with the family farm. John wed Mary (nee Heitz) on September 18, 1954, and eventually settled in a home in East Grand Rapids where they raised one son. In addition to farming, John worked at Meijer Corporate Offices until retirement. John enjoyed traveling with his wife, participating in Knights of Columbus, reminiscing about his childhood days on the farm, attending auctions, tending to his tractor collection, visiting with family and the occasional hunt.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nowak, his sisters Betty Tompkins and Evelyn (Bernard) Rybicki; sisters in law Loretta (Steve) Kozak and Helen (Lawrence) Mikula. John is survived by his only child, Wayne (Nicole) Nowak and honorary daughter, Brenda Swendrowski; sisters Charlene Burns and Margaret (Chuck) Wila; sister-in-law Rose Roberts and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the special caregivers at The Village of Heather Hills, private aides Royann and Deonna, and Interim Hospice.
The family will receive visitors at Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 6-8pm, and one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Catholic Parish in Dorr, MI, on Friday, April 26, 2024, mass beginning at 11:30am. Interment and lunch immediately following.
