John went to join loving family in Heaven on June 27. Born in Grand Rapids, he graduated from East Grand Rapids High School and the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts, then a Masters from the School of Forestry. John was a proud drummer in the Michigan Marching Band.
After university John spent seven years in Papua-New Guinea working for the Ministry of Forests. Forestry is their largest industry. John rose to be Vice Minister of Forestry.
After returning to the U.S. John moved to Rockford, where he remained for many years helping others with tax preparation and book keeping. He was a member of the Rockford community, where he served for years as Chairman of the Zoning Commission. He was the inspiration behind his parents’ creation of Kent County’s Luton Park. John followed in his father’s footsteps as an active member of the Isaak Walton League, including serving as Treasurer of the state organization.
John was preceded in death by his father Harry, mother Josephine, sister Jane, and infant brother David. John is survived by brothers Harry (Barbara) and Robert (Janice), and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at Fairplains cemetary.
We love you,
Harry, Barbara, Bob, Janice
