John Holmes

John Douglas Holmes, age 18, of East Grand Rapids died on impact in an automobile accident on Saturday evening, June 20, 2020. 

John was born in East Grand Rapids, Michigan on July 23, 2001 along with his brother, George Truman, the sons of Cynthia R. Holmes. He graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School class of 2020, a school that John greatly loved where he was blessed to have many loving relationships with students, teacher, coaches and administrators. John was planning to attend Brown University to play college football and study entrepreneurial business. John aspired to become a coach and was continuously helping and inspiring youth of all ages. John had great coaches as a young boy in Byron Center, at East Grand Rapids Middle School, at GRCH and playing for Grand Rapids Storm and various other football, basketball and baseball teams. Football and basketball coaches and trainers were among John's closest friends and loved ones, including Don Fellows, Ben Wickstom, Damon Dixon, Eric Taylor, Tim Sullivan, Tim Ward and so many others.

John shared a special bond with his twin brother, George, his best friend from birth. George too, was blessed by God with brilliance and exuberance for life. John and George shared so much joy together with each other and with their mother. The three made a special family unit with inseparable bonds forever. John's family also included his Godfather, George Crowley, Uncles Dan Holmes, Rick (Ellen) Holmes, Aunt Trudy Holmes, Uncles Rick Block (Mary) and Ken Block (Beverly), and many cousins. John will be in heaven with his grandpa and grandma Clem and Ruth Block, mom's parents. 

The family will receive all at Calvary Church, 707 East Beltline Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI. on Saturday, June 27th. Guests may arrive beginning at 10:00 am, services at 11:00 am, followed by fellowship. Pastor Elaine VanTil May will be officiating.
