Eve Meeter

Eve Meeter passed away peacefully at her home in Cascade Hills on April 16 at the age of 93, following an extended illness. She was born Evadiena TerAvest in Coopersville, Michigan in 1927. A lifelong resident of Western Michigan, she lived in the Grand Rapids area for 76 years. As a woman of deep faith, she looked forward to being with her Lord and her late husband, Hugh J. Meeter, who passed away in 1994 at their winter home in Naples, Florida.

Eve traveled the world extensively as Vice President of the importing firm of Hugh J. Meeter & Associates and was actively involved in the successful sale of the company to Ashland Oil. Prior to her marriage, she worked in the fields of photography and interior design.

Her hobbies included gourmet cooking, gardening, history, art, writing children’s books and doting on the family pets. Eve was much noted for her wit, wisdom, high energy and generosity. She was a positive influence on many, including throughout her illness.

Eve was a member of LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church for 55 years where she taught catechism. Sharing her faith was important to her through her teaching at church and in- home bible study. She also was actively involved in the H.H. Meeter Center for Calvin Studies and the Hugh and Eve Meeter Scholarship Awards at Calvin University.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Shirley and John Gallagher (Portage, MI), son Steve (Washington, DC), grand-daughter Pauline Gallagher (Georgetown, KY), and best friend/son and indispensable support person, Paul Wright (Grand Rapids). She will be missed by her devoted, loving caregivers to whom the family is grateful beyond measure.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday July 14, 2021 at LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 107 LaGrave Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, The Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
