Doris Singer Obituary

Doris Mary Case Singer, age 90, passed away in her home on October 29, 2020, with her three children at her side as promised. Doris was born in Brighton, Michigan on November 5, 1929 to Clio S. and Mary Stanfield Case. During the Depression, the family moved to the Stanfield family farm in Brighton Township where she attended Lyon School, a one room schoolhouse, until 8th grade. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1947. She was very proud to have recently received a Pre-Statehood Certification given to descendants of pioneering families who settled in Michigan before it became a state in 1837. Doris and her 3 children moved to Lansing in 1956, where she raised them as a single parent. Times were hard, but she supported her family, all the while providing a loving home.  She was very proud of her 15 year career as a Pharmacy Technician at Lansing General Hospital. She retired in 1995 and then moved to Grand Rapids to be close to her family. She felt her greatest achievement was raising her children to be fine adults. Her greatest joy was her 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren who adored her. She was much loved by her children, Mary Lynn (Darrell) Rickman, Virginia (Stephen) Mertz of Grand Rapids and Michael (Susan) Kennedy of Houghton Lake; her grandchildren, Shari (Tim) Bayer, Traci (Rick) Douglas, Alisha (Britton) Fowler, all of East Grand Rapids, Staci Rickman of Grand Rapids, Jason (Randi) Kennedy of Lansing, and Kelli (Pat) Schaberg of Lexington, SC;her great grandchildren, Christian, Grace and Charley Bayer, Kyle and Cameron Douglas, Regan and Colin Pitts, Molly Fowler, Bailey and Ryan Schaberg and Kaitlyn Kennedy, her nephew Edmond (Rozalia) Case of Maryland, great niece Dianne Taeckens (Ken Mulder) of Grand Blanc, as well as many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved brother Charles Case and brother Bernard Case, sister Dorothy Currie and niece Ann Baker. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Her remains were returned home to Brighton on her 91st birthday for interment at Fairview Cemetery, with a private family service to be held in 2021.  The family would like to thank Spectrum Hospice for their care and for helping to make it possible for her children to have the honor of caring for their mom in her final weeks. Donations may be made to The Brighton Area Historical Society for the Lyon School Restoration Fund, PO Box 481, Brighton, MI 48116-0481. “There is a center to each home from which all love must start. The center of our home is in our mother’s heart.”
