D. Michael Murphy

D. Michael Murphy passed away on Thursday November 10, 2022 at the age of 86.  Mike was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 16, 1936 to the late William and Agnes Murphy.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 25 years, Kristin Murphy, children Elizabeth Rich, Jason (Carey) Horrigan, Erin (Eric) Essick, 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sisters Sharon, Arlene, Judy, Rita, brothers Lynn, Neil and his beloved cats Jimmy, Leo and Lucy.  He was preceded in death by his sister Katie and brother Bill.

Upon graduation from St. Paul’s High School in Gross Pointe, he attended Detroit Mercy for a year and then enlisted in the Army.  The Army recognized leadership potential in him.  He was chosen to attend Officer Candidate School.  He received an honorable discharge from the Army three years later as a First Lieutenant.  It was his military background that would help make him the successful businessman that he became.  Mike was the owner and CEO of Davidson Plyforms for many years. He also founded Genesis Seating prior to his retirement.  Mike served for 8 years on the board at Aquinas College as well as the West YMCA.  He was a diehard Michigan Wolverine fan, enjoying season tickets to football games for many years.  He loved all animals, enjoyed boating, loved hunting all over the world and spending time with family and friends.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. 

The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11am on Friday November 18, 2022 at St. Robert of Newminster Parish, 6477 Ada Dr. SE, Ada, MI 49301 with Rev. Logan Weber as celebrant.  The family will greet relatives and friends at the church one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mike’s name for his love of animals may be made to the West Michigan Humane Society or Paws with a Cause.
