Bernard Craig Lawton, age 71, passed away in the home he built in Cedar Springs, MI on June 15, 2022.
Bernard was born in Irons, Michigan on August 12, 1950 to Nelson and Olive (Leavitt) Lawton. He grew up learning to love the outdoors, while helping his family run the Lawton General Store. In 1970, he joined the United States Navy and became a Navy Corpsman that was stationed with the United States Marines. His active duty was followed by many years in the United States Marine Reserves. He was very proud to serve his country, and it was an integral part of his life.
Bernard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time on his 10 acres. He was proud to be a member of the Rockford Sportsman’s Club, and taught firearm safety classes to people of all ages. Bernard committed his life to following the Jewish faith at Temple Emanuel, where he was named Dov Ben Avraham v’Sarah. Bernard is survived by two daughters, Teresa (Keith) Sterk and Jenny Gifford; 4 Grandchildren Trinity Sterk, Samantha Sterk, Austin Gifford, and Craig Gifford.
Funeral services will be held at the graveside in Oakhill Cemetery at 10:00 am on Friday June 17, 2022. In lieu of flowers please send memorial contributions to Temple Emanuel.
