Andrea Lynn Thompson

Andrea Lynn Thompson of Grand Rapids, passed away Saturday, June 20th 2020 at the age of 53. She was born on April 12, 1967 in Hillsdale, Michigan to Donald and Jacqueline Keenan. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 22 years Kyle, children Eric and Allison, mother Jacqueline, brother Marc and sister in law Kim, Nephews Alex and Andrew (and fiancé, Paige), father and mother in laws Maynard and Pamela Thompson, Brothers and sister in laws Scott and Malissa Thompson, Stacey and Gail Barnes, Craig and Elizabeth Dykes, and 8 other Nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Donald Keenan.

Andrea was a devoted wife and mother. She loved attending baseball, basketball and soccer games for Eric and Allison, and could clearly be heard over the crowd cheering on her teams. She also loved the theater and attending plays and musicals with her family and close friends. Perhaps her biggest passion was reading! Andrea worked at Collins Elementary School in their media center, and she had an uncanny ability to get the children excited about reading. She adored the children at Collins, and treasured the friendships she made working with her Collins Colleagues. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than when her students would see her outside of school and run up to give a big hug.

Perhaps Andrea’s greatest gift to this world is her outlook on life. Don’t focus on the negatives, but recognize the positives. Don’t get so bogged down in petty activities that you can’t go to lunch with a friend. Chores can wait! Her friendships are what drove her and motivated her to enjoy life every day! Andrea also had an infectious laugh! Even when she was ill and in pain, her motto was “keep laughing”. She could find the humor in almost any situation! While we take solace that Andrea is now at peace, and suffers no more pain, this world will miss her laughter, positivity, and friendship!

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, June 27th at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. Please be aware that due to COVID-19 restrictions, only a certain number of people may be in the funeral home at one time. Waiting outside may be necessary to control the numbers in the building and for proper social distancing. Thank you for understanding.

In lieu of flowers, the Andrea Thompson Memorial Fund, c/o Macatawa Bank, 4590 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 has been set up to benefit the Collins Elementary School Media Center. It would be a real tribute to Andrea to have her passion for reading continued in her absence.
