Amy Lou Burgess, age 54, of Grand Rapids lost her battle with cancer in the early hours of Tuesday, June 8, 2021.
Amy was born in Cambridge, MA December 7, 1966 to Rev. Ray and Martha (Danforth) Burgess. She graduated from City High School and went on to Albion College to get her BA in English. After taking a break from Michigan in North Carolina, Amy came back to stay in the mid 90s and settled in Grand Rapids.
Amy was a hard worker. Although she wore many hats over the years from ice cream scooper to fast food manager, to direct sales, her favorite was administrative assistant. She did this first for many years at Priority Health and then at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.
Amy’s faith was an important part of her life. She was involved in church all her life. She frequently assisted her father at church over the years. She especially enjoyed visiting the winter chapel at Voyager RV park in Tucson, AZ and helping him. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Amy is survived by her father Rev. Ray Burgess of Grand Rapids, MI, her brother Scott Burgess (and his wife Heidi) of Denver, CO, her sister Kristina Minners and (her husband Peter) of Surprise, AZ, five nephews, one niece, one great nephew and two great nieces. She is preceded in death by her mother Martha Burgess and her infant son Samuel Isaac.
A celebration of Amy’s life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church. Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 10:30am
