Alice Wharton Bickley, 68, passed away in East Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, following a series of health complications. Alice was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 18, 1954, to Lawrence and Alice Wharton Bickley who pre-deceased her. She is survived by her brothers Stevens Wharton-Bickley and Jamison Wharton-Bickley, Steve’s wife Rita, nephews Steele and Andrew, niece Margaret, and dear friends.
Alice was a 1973 graduate of East Grand Rapids High School, attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, and graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. She was employed by David La Claire Portraiture as a portrait color specialist.
Alice was a strong and courageous woman who battled a paranoid schizophrenia disorder for much of her life. Despite this difficulty, she retained her beautiful smile and kind soul. Alice was a gifted artist, and a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She celebrated life through her love of animals, nature, family and friends.
A Memorial service will be held at Fredrick Meijer Gardens at 11:00am in the Pfeiffer Room on December 3, 2022. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial contributions to be made to the Humane Society of West Michigan, or to the Mental Health Foundation of Western Michigan.
