Ward Whitfield Verseput

Ward Whitfield Verseput, age 75, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Ward was born on November 1, 1943 in Grand Rapids and moved to Harbor Springs at age 7.  After graduating High School in 1961 he earned his Associate of Arts Degree at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey where he met the love of his life, Jean Marie Matz.  After graduation from Michigan State University, they were married in December of 1966 in Harbor Springs.  Ward began his career with Old Kent Bank and spent the last 43 years as an Agency Manager and Agent with State Farm Insurance, the last 24 in Coopersville, MI.  A strong advocate of Community Service, Ward supported many organizations, not only serving in leadership positions but with financial assistance, Rotary, DDA, Coopersville Area Community Foundation, and G.R. Junior Chamber of Commerce, just to name a few.  Ward loved downhill skiing, boating, woodworking, model trains, music and just helping others.  Ward and Jean recently completed a life-long dream of America’s Great Loop aboard his boat “Dream Maker”.  Ward is survived by his wife of 52 years Jean Verseput, daughter Suzanne (Michael) Pfundstein of Weston, Florida, son Scott (Anne) Verseput of Grandville; six grandchildren Jake, Eric, and Mikey Pfundstein and Isabella, Paxton, and Oliver Verseput; sisters Cindy (Steve) Baron of Grand Haven, Mary (Jerry) Neubauer of Clayton, MO, and brother Greg (Anne) Verseput of Grand Rapids.   A memorial service to celebrate Ward’s life will be held at 11:00 am on July 25th , with a visitation one hour prior, at Central Reformed Church, 10 College Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.  Luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Ward may be given to the Ward W. & Jean M. Verseput Fund held at the Coopersville Area Community Foundation, 182 East Street Rm 112, Coopersville, MI 49404.
