Thomas Anastor departed this life in peace with his beloved family at his side. Left to cherish his memory and honor his legacy are his wife of 35 years Jill M. Anastor (Groskopf); his children Thomas E. Anastor II; Tony Anastor and Stephanie (Erik) Anderson; grandchildren CJ Anastor and Zoey Anderson; siblings Denny (Cathy) Anastor and Darlene Umphrey; in-laws Kim Bosscher and Linda (Carl) Voshel; several nieces, nephews and countless friends and colleagues. Born to Charles J. and Marguerite Anastor in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Tom served in the United States Marine Corp. after graduating from South High School and prior to beginning a life-long career in the optical industry as the owner and President of Art Optical Contact Lens, Inc. Originally founded by his father as an ophthalmic lens manufacturing firm in 1931, Tom became a pioneer in contact lens manufacturing in the late 50’s and dedicated the next 5 decades to building the organization. Thanks to his tenacious work ethic, the company is now an industry leader recognized for providing sight-saving technology to millions of patients around the world. Tom was extremely proud of Art Optical’s impact and he valued his relationships with associates, customers, and suppliers across the globe. He was also proud of his Greek heritage and was an active member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. Services to honor and remember Tom’s life will take place at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 334 La Grave, Grand Rapids, on Friday, September 21 at 11am. Visitation will be from 2-4 pm and 6-8pm on Thursday September 20, with a Trisagion service at 7pm at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church or the Grand Rapids Lion’s Club Foundation.
