Susan Slawson

Susan Craig (Slawson) Coons went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 8, 2018. She was born on September 18, 1931 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late James and Florence Craig. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband David W. Coons; children Gingie and Ray Rabideau, David and Marcia Slawson, Jim and Nancy Slawson, and MaryGray Slawson and Skip Barrett; grandchildren Kristin and Adam Johnson, Nicole and Michael Schneider, Amy, Mathew and Will Slawson, Allison, Andy, Marnie, and Jake Slawson, and Bailey Barrett; great grandchildren, Haylie, Austin, Caleb, Addie, and Belle; and step family Peter, Janet, Lindsey and Ethan Coons. Susan was a graduate of East Grand Rapids High School and received both her Bachelors and Master's Degrees in early childhood education from the University of Michigan. In addition to loving and caring for her family, Susan enjoyed being involved with church, entertaining family and friends at home and the family cottage on Lake Michigan, and participating in community activities, including the Junior League where she served as President. The family thanks the wonderful staff at The Village of Heather Hills and Kindred Hospice for her genuine and loving care. A service celebrating her life will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday December 15th at the Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice or the Humane Society of West Michigan.
