Susan Alane MacDonald Garlick was born on March 15, 1941 to Robert Duncan and Elizabeth May MacDonald. She attended Grosse Pointe High School and then met the love of her life, Ralph, while visiting her sisters for "Little Siblings Weekend" at The University of Michigan. Sue attended the University of Miami (FL), WMU, and graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Education. Sue and Ralph married on Nov. 25, 1961 (during halftime of the Michigan vs. Ohio State football game!). For many years Sue worked as an Administrative Assistant to the Guidance Counselors at EGR Middle School, retiring in 1995. Sue enjoyed bowling, golfing, knitting, following U of M sports, cheering for the Tigers, and spending time with her family, especially at the cottage on Big Whitefish Lake.
Sue is survived by two of her three sisters, Judy Stucky and Kathryn Whitton; her two daughters, Carey Peabody (Robert) and Ann Conklin (Peter); five grandchildren, Connor, Emma, and Grace Morgan and Lily and Lewis Conklin; as well as many nieces and nephews and other extended family who loved her dearly.
A Memorial service will be held Friday, March 22nd at 2 pm at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home with the Rev. Laurie TenHave-Chapman officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of West Michigan.
