Marjorie Hendricks, age 92 of Grand Rapids, died peacefully on Feb. 16. She was born on New Year’s Day to George M. & Cecile Ross. Marjorie was the youngest of four girls, all who have preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Clarence and two precious infant daughters, Jan Ross, Melissa Ann and son-in-law-law, J. Stephen Roy.
Surviving her are son, Jeffery M. Hendricks of Grand Rapids and daughter, Sandra (Robert) Spangler of Scottville, two grandchildren, Christopher G. Roy of Baldwin and Amanda M. (James) Montgomery of Grand Haven and great-granddaughter, Ashley N. Roy of Orlando, Florida, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Marjorie grew up living across the street from her future husband, Clarence, who was eight years older. After returning from WWII, he saw she had grown up and they were married soon after. They were happily married over 60 years!
Marjorie was a faithful volunteer woking at the Voluntary Action Center (now United Way), the Grand Valley Blood Center, served as a Gray Lady at Butterworth Hospital and initiated the library at Alger Elementary School. She was very proud of “her” city of Grand Rapids and in recent years could be found daily at one of city’s coffee shops with her son Jeff.
A private memorial will take place later this summer.
To honor Marjorie, please consider taking your parent or a loved one out for a cup of coffee.
