On June 5, 2018, Girard “Jerry” Marcozzi passed away at the age of 90. He is survived by Anita, his wife of 62 years, whom many jokingly said was a saint for putting up with him, and had four children, Nancy (Jamil) Yabroudi and Susan (Ed) Crimmins. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Marcozzi, and his daughter Wendy (Jim) Wallace. In addition, he was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Helen Crimmins, Laura (Matt) Wilson, Sami Yabroudi, Adam Yabroudi, Benjamin Wallace, and Jack Wallace. Being their grandfather was one of the greatest joys in his life, and he enjoyed teaching them to fish, ride four-wheelers, and love all things Italian.
Jerry served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of the University of Detroit and also completed advance insurance and business classes at Purdue University. In Port Huron, MI, he was the co-owner of Robbins and Marcozzi Inc., where he was a life insurance consultant and a specialist in estate planning. He was also a Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table.
Jerry was involved in many civic and cultural endeavors. He was a Shriner as well as a Member and Past Master of the Pine Grove 11 Masonic Lodge. He organized the neighbors of Maracaibo Shores in Cascade, MI, to build a pond for the kids, which he stocked with fish so they could have fun – but mostly so he could have fun watching them.
An avid outdoorsman, Jerry loved snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and raising pheasants that he could never train to fly away no matter how hard he tried. He collected antique clocks, enjoyed photography and cooking, and made the most magnificent pasta anyone ever ate (or at least that’s what he insisted his grandchildren tell him). He loved his Thursday night poker games, playing bocce ball with his brothers, and arguing with customer service representatives unlucky enough to pick up his call.
Jerry loved to laugh and tell stories, and he lived a long and happy life. His family would be pleased to have you join them to remember him, tell stories, and laugh with them at a memorial service on Saturday, June 9, at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. and the Service is at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, they ask that donations be made to his name to Kindred Hospice of Grand Rapids or the International Rescue Committee “A Year of School” program for disadvantaged girls of third world countries. Donation cards for both will be available at the funeral home.
