Evelyn DeVries

Evelyn DeVries, 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday June 25, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.  Evie was born on January 21, 1938 in the Netherlands to the late Fred and Jenny Dykstra.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children Sharon Lynn Valdo, Connie Jean (Russ) Hernandez, Linda Sue (Peter) Anderson, Dawn Renee Smith; her grandchildren Brandon (Stefanie) Valdo, Angela (Matthew) White, Travis (Kelli) Valdo, Matthew (Jenierose) Hernandez, Bradley (Mandee) Hernandez, Adam Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Jordan (Nicole) Smith, Zachary Smith, Brittany Smith, Crystal (Michael) Mahon; great grandchildren Mia Valdo, Mason and Cooper White, Gabriel and Noah Hernandez, Porter Foster, Carson Smith and Baron Mahon.  Evie is also survived by her siblings Flo (Dale) Weemhoff, Al (Helen) Dykstra, Lucy Sinkgraven, Marge Nyhuis, Bob (Judy) Dykstra, Jim (Lorrie) Dykstra and Sue (Steve) Browneye.  She was preceded in death by her husband Henry and brother Bobby. 

Evie loved the Lord.  Faith put her love into action.  She loved to serve, give and bring others joy through the little handmade gifts or acts of kindness.  Her grandkids and great grandkids were what made her the most happy.  She was such a kid at heart herself.  She was always so blessed by and drew her strength from her close knit large family and precious handpicked circle of friends and her embracing church family.  We adore you, Silver Fox!

The family will greet relatives and friends Saturday at the Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 11am until 1pm and again on Sunday from 1-3pm.  The funeral service will be held at 3pm on Sunday June 30th at the funeral home.  Evie will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CrossWay Community Church, 3950 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
