Eileen Lois (Hamilton) Pohly, age 88 of Grand Rapids died on July 2, 2019 at Clark on Keller Lake, in Grand Rapids. Born April 4, 1931 in Canonsburg, PA, she was the daughter of Cristy and Geraldine (Wetzel) Hamilton. She is survived by her loving husband, Gerald Pohly, of 57 years; her two children, Douglas Pohly and Karen Pohly (Rodney Lane) and grandson, Luc. Also, step-grandchildren Tali, Lydia and Canyon. Laura (Wolbert) Olwig, Ellen Wolbert, John and Katie Cole whom she blest with her caregiving in their growing up years remain very special friends and survive her as well, along with their parents Paul and Amy Wolbert and Richard and Gay Cole
Eileen is also survived by sister, Gail Lawrence of Belvedere, IL and Nephew Christopher (Maggie) Puncekar of Schaumburg, IL. She was preceded in death by her youngest sister, Sandra Puncekar of Buffalo Grove, IL.
Before her marriage to Gerald in 1962, she began her working career at Addressograph-Multigraph Corporation in Cleveland, OH. Later a faith event at Linwood Park, Ohio in 1949 was a pivotal event in her life which renewed her spirit and set her on a course of employment in Christian Education at the Master’s United Methodist Church in Euclid, OH. She began as a Secretary but eventually became the Director of Christian Education where Gerald’s brother Dr. Kenneth Pohly, was senior pastor.
She will be missed for her loving spirit, compassionate mind and heart, and self-giving, spirit both to her immediate family, extended family and many others in her wide circle of friends.
On Tuesday July 9th, friends are invited for visitation with the family at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Rd, SE. Grand Rapids, MI 49546 from 2-4p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
Funeral Services will take place at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1100 Lake Drive, SE on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. There will be a viewing at the church before the service at 12:00 Noon. After cremation, her ashes will be buried at a later time in the Memorial Gardens of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes in Grand Haven where her husband was Senior Pastor from 1978-1989.
The family suggests that Memorial Contributions be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the United Methodist Church of the Dunes Memorial Fund in Grand Haven, MI. Remembrances of her life may be shared online at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service Website.
