Dennis Moses Hattem, 67, passed away on January 14, 2020, in the company of his son and siblings in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after a long illness.
Dennis was born in Grand Rapids on November 11, 1952, to the late Moses and Maxine Hattem. Dennis was a lifelong explorer, artist and performer. He served in the Peace Corps, worked with Save the Children, played in rock bands in New York, and pursued a film career in Hollywood after he retired from civil engineering. He loved to cook and play music with his family. They will miss his songs, his food and his warmth of spirit.
Dennis is survived by his son Julian (Andrea Rowan) Hattem; his sister Donna Hattem; his two brothers, Deeb Hattem and Duane (Patricia Julien) Hattem; his nephew Chris Julien; his godchildren Adam and Cory Malantonio; many cousins; and his former wife Frances Julia Riemer.
Guests are invited to attend the visitation from 6pm-8pm, with Trisagion service at 7:30pm, on Friday January 17, 2020, at St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church at 2250 E. Paris SE Grand Rapids, MI 49546. The funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday January 18, 2020 with a viewing starting at 10am, also at St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maxine G. Hattem Music Scholarship at Aquinas College or St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church.
