Darwin C. Nellist

Darwin C. Nellist, age 86, of Ada, passed away into the presence of his Lord on April 8, 2018.  Darwin was born in Grand Rapids, MI on November 11, 1931, the son of Charles and Velma Nellist.  Dar retired from Kent County Road Commission as director of maintenance and local construction.  He also served as Fire Chief of Ada Township and was past master and life member of Doric Masonic Lodge, and a life-long member of Ada Congregational Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lorraine K. Nellist.  Surviving are his three daughters, Kathleen (William) Cox of Ada, Debra (James) Wisneski of Ada, and Susan (Thomas) Phillips of Lowell; five grandchildren, Brian Bigelow, Mandy (David) Rozema, Ashley Gould, Grant Gould and Cassie (Chris) Phillips; five great-grandchildren; brother in law Robert Savage of Laguna Woods, CA; sister Cheryl Collins of Ada and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral Services will be held 11am on Thursday April 12 at Ada Congregational Church, with Reverend Gary Burdick officiating.   The family will receive friends on Wednesday April 11th from 6 to 8pm at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at church.  For those who wish memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
