Ann Deaner Obituary

Ann Louise Deaner aged 88 of Alto, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 26, 2018 surrounded by her loving daughters and devoted family.  She was born June 21, 1929 in Benton Harbor, Michigan and lived in Sodus and Grand Rapids.  She and her husband resided winters in Cabo San Lucas from 1970’s to early 2000’s.  She attended Stephens Woman’s College receiving an associates degree and completed her education in interior design at Andrews University years later.

She is survived by her daughters, Pat Deaner (Gregg Stoepker), Mary (Jay) Caldwell, Marcia (Jerry) Tubergen, son-in-law Don Perkins and eight grandchildren; Amy (Ryan) Blackburn, Lindsey (Ryan) Kerstetter, Kyle (Jenna) Perkins, Ashley (Joe) McDonald, Jon (Dana) Caldwell, Brittany (Nate) Spoelman, Jenna (Ben) Sietsema, Luke (Diandra) Tubergen, 23 great grandchildren and sister-in-law Joan Griffendorf.  She was preceded in death by her husband Bert of 62 years and her daughter Kathryn Ann Perkins, parents Henry and Louise Griffendorf and brother Henry (Bo) Griffendorf.

She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends as spreading joy, love, smiles and encouragement to all she encountered.  She loved everybody and all that got to know her, loved her also.  She cherished her role as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Her life was an example of a life lived out in faith, a faith she loved to share with others.  She prided herself on being a life time learner and had a wide variety of interests which included gardening, health, travel, bible study, art and music – she never heard a song that she didn’t want to dance to!

She worked alongside her husband in both work and hobbies.  She began with helping him on the farm and continued with a variety of businesses including a bowling establishment, resort and a condo development.  In leisure, she and her husband enjoyed woodworking, traveling, helping on family projects and spending time deep sea fishing in the Pacific Ocean.  One of her proud legacies will be the bilingual Christian church she helped start in Cabo San Lucas.

The family will greet friends and family for visitation at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 11-1 with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday May 30, 2018.  Immediate family will attend interment at Alaska Cemetery in Caledonia Twp. following the funeral.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bible Study Fellowship (19001 Huebner Road, San Antonio, TX USA 78258-4019) or Relational Concepts Ministry (PO Box 88095, Grand Rapids, MI 49518.
