Shelly M. Binder

Shelly Marie (Gendregske) Binder, age 69, of Kentwood, Michigan passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Her husband Bob and long-time friend Pat Harvey were at her side.
Shelly was born in Claire, MI on February 19, 1953, the daughter of Julius and Marjorie (Horden) Gendregske. Shelly graduated from Sparta, High School; later earning a bachelor’s degree in business management from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids.
On November 22, 1986, Shelly was united in marriage to Bob Binder who survives. Also surviving are her brothers John, and Lynn Gendregske, her sister Sally Birdsley, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Shelly enjoyed several different occupations throughout her lifetime. After high school, she worked for a period as a seamstress for General Motors. After graduating from college, she worked as an executive assistant at several different companies. While living in the Chicago area she became a travel agent which she enjoyed very much. After moving back to West Michigan, she earned a personal trainer license and taught exercise classes to the elderly through the Kentwood Recreation Department, and Metro Health. This very quickly became her passion.
Everyone who met Shelly enjoyed her personality, humor, smile, and zest for life. Even during her final year of life which was filled with multiple medical procedures each week, near-daily doctor visits, and much pain, she never gave up, never complained, and always had a smile for everyone.
Shelly would want to thank all her family and friends who provided her much moral support during this time, with a special thank you to her long-time friend Jan Lipscomb who provided daily support along with rides to many appointments. Also, Pastor Laurie Crelly from East Church for providing unwavering spiritual support during this difficult time.
