David Cook Obituary

David William Cook, aged 71, was surrounded by many loving family members virtually as he was peacefully ushered into his heavenly home on Monday, November 16, 2020.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Barbara Cook.  David is survived by his children, Tom (Deb) Cook, Tim Cook, Rebecka (Chad) Neff, Jamie Kuiper, Ken Cook and Diana Cook;  grandchildren, Brenton Kolenda,  Breanna, Haley and Sophia Cook, Emmanuella, Elliott and Sawyer Neff, Molly and Micah Dewey, Jacob and Caleb Kuiper; great-grandchildren, Owen Fochtman and Myla White.  He is also survived by his two brothers, Steve (Sue) and Dan (Carrie) Cook, sister Barbara (Terry) Handley, many dear nieces and nephews, and significant other Ann Kamm.

David was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on December 21, 1948.  He graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School, attended University of Michigan and graduated with a Masters Degree from Grand Valley State University.  He was a jack of all trades in the professional world.  Dabbling in many different career choices, he was most proud of his time as an oil engineer.   David was genuinely interested in everyone and lit up a room with his gregarious persona, style, and big blue eyes.  He was a wonderful conversationalist, would talk with anyone on any subject, and was always open to a good verbal sparring partner.  David loved all his children and grandchildren, and would do anything within his means to help and support them. He had the biggest heart, with a soft spot for the underdog, he would tear up just watching "Lucky Dog."  He was a protector and an encourager- especially to his family and friends. One of his favorite things to do was to watch or read anything related to Star Wars- he was an expert.  David enjoyed all sports, but football was his passion. He had a special place in his heart for the University of Michigan and was a devoted fan. He followed Tom Brady, too, no matter what team he played for.

David had a love of books and learning. His favorite book was the Holy Bible, and he had a large collection of bibles.  He would often quote bible verses and knew the bible front to back.  He was also open to new ideas, loved to try new things, go new places, and meet new people. David had a strong and unwavering faith with his Lord and Savior that he carried throughout  his whole life.  His presence here on earth will be greatly missed, but he is rejoicing in the loving arms of Jesus. A private family funeral is to be held at Aberdeen Reformed Church.  Memorial Contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, nkfm.org.
