Mrs. Marilyn J. Moore, age 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, September 13, 2019 following a courageous battle with acute leukemia and congestive heart failure. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Marian Anderberg, her husband, Dr. Joseph S. Moore, her sister Joyce Holwerda and her infant daughter Elizabeth Ann.
She is survived by her children, Amy and Dan Gallmeyer, Sarah MacDonald, Lisa and Klaus Kutschke, and Julie Moore; her grandchildren, Joseph Gallmeyer and Debbie Reinbold, Charles Gallmeyer and Katy Wallander, Samuel Gallmeyer; Elizabeth and Claire MacDonald; John and Hallie Kutschke, Anna Kutschke and Skyler Fish. Also surviving are her sister-in-law Marilyn Moore of Denver, CO, brother-in-law John and his wife Sue Moore of Fort Myers, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. Marilyn grew up in Grand Rapids and later attended the University of Michigan, graduating with a degree in Nursing. She spent much of her adult life as a homemaker and volunteered her time and talents to a variety of organizations including First United Methodist Church, the Dorothy Swift Guild at Spectrum Butterworth as well as the Butterworth Foundation. After her daughters had all left home, she spent several years working as the manager of the Rental/Sales Gallery at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. She and Joe loved the cultural arts and regularly attended the Grand Rapids Symphony and the Civic Theater. Marilyn was a tremendously loving and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Memorial contributions can be made to the United Methodist Community House, 904 Sheldon Ave, Grand Rapids, MI 49507, or to a charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 207 E. Fulton, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 with a luncheon immediately following the service. Entombment will be in Rosedale Memorial Park. Friends may meet the family at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 on Friday, October 11 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
