Paul Fitzgerald Andrews left this world on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at age 69. He is proceeded in death by his oldest son, Eric Andrews and his parents. Paul is survived by his daughter Stephanie (Dan) and son Justin (Michele). Paul is also remembered by five grandchildren, two grand dogs, numerous family members, and countless friends.
He was born in Harlem, NY and grew up all over the city. He was an exceptional student and accomplished athlete. In addition to football and basketball, Paul was a talented runner, nearly qualifying for the Olympic Games. After graduating high school and continuing his studies, Paul heard the call for service and joined the United States Marine Corps. After serving in the Air Wing he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Paul moved to Grand Rapids and continued his education, graduating with a degree from Aquinas. He then began his professional career, specializing in logistics and working for such companies as Westinghouse.
While Paul was an only child, he had many cousins that were as close as siblings. His fondest childhood memories were of visits to Jamaica, where he could be found playing with family, trying new foods, and basking in the outdoors. Family took many forms for Paul and it was at the center of his world.
Paul passes on to his children and grandchildren his thirst for knowledge. Anyone who met him will describe his intelligence first. He could always be found listening to a TedTalk or even taking an online college course. So many memories shared by those whose lives he touched start off with, “remember Paul telling us about…”
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, February 17th from 3-5 at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service. Friends and Family will gather to share stories, remember Paul’s easy smile, and hug it out. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Conductive Learning Center at www.conductivelearningcenter.org.
