John A. Walker D.O.

John A. Walker D.O. joined his loving wife Patricia of fifty two years in their heavenly home on January 4, 2017.

Dr. Walker was born in Jackson Michigan April 24, 1934 to Dr. and Mrs. Leslie B. Walker. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1952 and attended the University of Miami and Hillsdale College before graduating from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in 1961 in Des Moines, Iowa. 

Following a general medical practice of three years in Sheridan, Michigan he entered a General Surgical Residency Program at Grand Rapids Osteopathic Hospital after which he remained on staff as a General Surgeon until 1987.

He assumed the position of Clinical Director for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Oakdale, Louisiana in 1987 and retired from that position in 1999. He returned to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2006 where he remained until his death.

Dr. Walker was a former member of the American Osteopathic Association, Michigan Osteopathic Association, Kent County Osteopathic Society and a life member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeon.

Dr. Walker is survived by his three children:  Terrance Walker (Karen) of Ada, Michigan, Cathy (Rick) Plite of Comstock Park, Michigan and Kimberly Walker of Kentwood, Michigan, grand children Justin Polzin, Sarah Nelson, Hillary Winn and Ryan Walker and great grand children: Zoe and Emery Polzin, Landon and Aubrey Nelson, and Camden Walker.

A memorial service is to be announced.
