James H. Blok

James Harry Blok, 92, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with his Lord on February 10, 2016.  James was born in Byron Center on October 19, 1923 and lived most of his life in Grand Rapids.  He graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1939 and went on to graduate from Davis Tech.  He was a long-tine member of Central Reformed Church and a proud Saladin Shriner. After working as a tool and die maker, he purchased his own business and had a long and prosperous career as president of Reliance Plastisol Coating Co. Alongside his wife of 63 years, Phyllis, Jim was an avid golfer and master duplicate bridge player. Up until his passing, he retained his wits and sense of humor. As anyone he met would testify, he was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; he will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all of them. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis. He is survived by his children Judith (Ronald) Rinehart, of Des Moines, Iowa, James (Jill) Blok, Phillip Blok, Steven Blok, and John (Elizabeth) Blok, and daughter-in-law JoAnne Blok, all of Grand Rapids, as well as his 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister Marge Gezon. A special thank you to the staff at Blodgett Hospital, Marywood Health Center, Raybrook Manor, and Faith Hospice. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Memorial contributions to the North Alano Club of Grand Rapids or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
