Jack Bowen

Jack Bowen age 78 of Grand Rapids, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday January 8, 2018.  He is survived by his wife, Judy, children, Marybeth (Bill) Barkeley, John (Teri) Bowen, Scott (Ann) Bowen, Dan (Sherry) Bowen and Katie (Steve) Millman, eighteen grandchildren, John (Anne Kash), Brian, Will Barkeley, Emma, Dan, Mia Bowen, Lainey (Rick) Rattay, Ben, Ellie, Maggie Bowen, Alex (Greg) Barshied, Joe, Annalise, Jack Bowen, Scotty, Maddie Claire, Matt and Bowen Millman and one great granddaughter Lillian Rose Rattay.  Also surviving are his sisters Barbara Eastman (Jerry deceased) and Mary Jean (John) Wessely and his brother Joe (Gloria) Bowen and many beloved nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bud (Kay).  Jack was devoted to his family and his faith. He was ever present with huge hugs, words of encouragement and a big heart. He enjoyed a long and successful career in retail with Fox Jewelers. His most important accomplishments are his marriage of 56 years, his five children, their spouses, his grandchildren and great grand daughter. He enjoyed summers at the cottage, trips to Ireland, winters in Palm Springs CA and celebrating life with family and lifelong friends. He made every effort to attend all of his children and grand children’s special events.  His favorite place was a Friday night, in the stands, watching his sons, grandsons, nephews and friends play Catholic Central football carrying on his legacy and love for the game.  Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic parish was his home for forty years where he made many friends and fond memories. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday January 13 at 11am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 1935 Plymouth Ave SE Grand Rapids, MI 49506.  The family will greet friends on Friday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with the vigil service beginning at 7:30pm at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Killgoar Foundation (Immaculate Heart of Mary School), and Catholic Central Foundation.
