Herman Frank Werther

Herman Werther, 90, of Grand Rapids passed away April 23, 2016. Herm was the loving husband of Barbara (d. 2014) for 68 wonderful years. Together they raised four children, Jeanne McConnell (d.2005), John Werther (d.1982), Robert Werther, and Lynne (Wade) Keller. He was a loving grandfather to Matt (Anna) Keller, Leigh (Matt) Rupinski, Summer (James) Stephens, four grandsons, and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his good friend Ron.  Herm was born and raised in Rochester, New York.  He was a graduate of Irondequoit High School (NY).  While in high school, Herm excelled in football and basketball.  Herm enlisted in the navy in 1944 and attended Dartmouth College through the NROTC program.  Herm graduated with a degree in Business.  He spent the majority of his career in wholesale sales and later in tax preparation. He spent 20+ years coaching little league football (Walled Lake and Kentwood) and continued enjoying sports through his grandchildren.   He enjoyed traveling (especially in South Dakota) and time spent with his family and friends. A very special thank you to Great Lakes Caring, Hospice, and The Medical Team for their care.  A memorial  service will be held on Thursday at 4:30pm in the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Chapel.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30pm at the funeral home.
