Daniel B. Shumaker

Daniel Barker Shumaker M.D., loved husband, father, and friend passed away April 28, 2016 in Charlevoix, MI. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Deborah Lynn (Mertz), daughters Lindsay (Brett) Kovarik and Katherine Shumaker (Tyler Wolfe), his brother John Shumaker, sister Susan Latronico, and a large extended family, whom he loved.  
Last summer, Dr. Shumaker celebrated his extremely impressive 30 year career in radiology, during which he not only helped countless patients but also worked tirelessly to improve radiology in Michigan Hospitals. He was a fellow of the American College of Radiology, clinical assistant professor at Michigan State University School of Human Medicine and University of Michigan Medical School. Dan also served as member and president (2003) of the Michigan Radiologic Society, and played an instrumental role in the economics, legislative affairs and fellowship. Dan was also a member of the American Medical Association, Michigan State Medical Society and Kent County Medical Society.  
Separately, he served as president of St. James Lutheran Church in Grosse Pointe Farms (2000) and was a member of the church for twenty years. Dan had a passion for all Detroit sports and a love of sports in general. He was most relaxed at his condo in Boyne City, and happiest boating on Lake Charlevoix with his family.  
Memorial visitation will be Friday, May 6, from 5:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 7 at 12:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2700 Fulton, E Grand Rapids.
