Bud Baxter

Harry M. “Bud” Baxter Jr., age 94, went to be with his Lord and beloved wife, while surrounded by family on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Caswell Baxter; sister, Margaret Baxter; and brother, John (Nancy) Baxter. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Skip (Sharon) Baxter, Syd (Mary) Baxter and Peggy (Doug) Hoogerhyde; his grandchildren Jeff (KC) Baxter, Susie (Dan) VanSkiver, Tom (deceased) (Erin Weston) Radosevich, Julie (Dan) Holt and Kristin (Jason) Ruud; and his 11 great-grandchildren. Bud was President of S.A. Morman & Co. for nearly 40 years and lived an active life. He passionately served his community as Grand Rapids YMCA Board Chairman, Butterworth (Spectrum) Hospital Board Member, Mayflower Congregational Church Charter Member, Association for the Blind Board Member, Grand Rapids Rotary Club President and Captain in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War. Graduate of the University of Michigan, he loved running marathons, sailing, flying and playing golf with friends. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed by many. A celebration of Bud’s life will be held 11AM Monday, October 9, 2017 at Mayflower Congregational Church, 2345 Robinson Rd SE, Grand Rapids, MI; lunch to follow. Visitation will be held 6 to 8PM Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at church on Monday from 10 to 11AM.  In lieu of flowers and in honor of Bud, contributions may be made to the YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin.
