Betty Jane Davies Scobey, age 98, passed from this world on February 10, 2017 in Clarkston, MI. Born December 14, 1918, Grand Rapids, she was preceded in death by her husband Clinton Herbert Harold Scobey, father Peter Hamilton Davies, mother Estelle Redford Davies and her four brothers and sisters: J. Morris Davies, Harold Davies, Harvey Davies, and Norma Davies Oldfield.
Betty worked in accounting and held several key positions for 14 years at Preferred Insurance Company’s national office in Grand Rapids. She later worked for her husband Clint as administrative assistant at West Michigan Hearing Services.
Betty served as President of Baby’s Welfare Guild and president of Breton Garden and Arts Club where she was instrumental in that club’s contribution to fund raising for the creation of Meijer Gardens. She was also a co–chair for the 1967 National Convention of the American Business Club at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.
Betty was a lifelong member of East Congregational Church and loved participating in its Chancel Choir and Ruth Guild. She is known by her family and neighbors as a great lover and rescuer of animals.
She is remembered with profound love as a devoted wife, daughter, sister and mother and is survived by her daughter, Sally Scobey-Biggs, son-in-law Philip Biggs and grandson Christopher of Clarkston, nephew James Morris Davies, wife Lorraine, grand-niece Lori Davies Welty, husband Kerry and son Cody, grand-nephew Robert Davies, wife Tracy and son Ben of Phoenix, AZ.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday February 23rd at 2pm at East Congregational Church in the Klise Chapel, 1005 Giddings Ave. SE Grand Rapids. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church from 1:00 to 2:00. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Humane Society of West Michigan or Crash’s Landing for Cats.
