Alice Leigh (Jamison) Wharton-Bickley

October 3, 1920 ~ June 21, 2016 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Alice Leigh Jamison Wharton-Bickley age 95, of East Grand Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, June 21st, 2016.  She is survived by her three children, Jamie of Grand Rapids, Stevens (Rita) of Grand Haven and Alice of Grand Rapids, three grandchildren Margaret, Andrew and Steele.  She was the loving wife of Lawrence Wharton-Bickley (deceased 1993) and was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Marjorie Jamison of Cleveland, OH. and her twin sister Mary Leigh Gifford of Short Hills, NJ.  Born Oct. 3rd, 1920 in Cleveland, OH.  She attended Laurel School 1938 and Connecticut College in interior design and then started work in Cleveland at Thompson Products doing mechanical design.  After WWII, she married Lawrence Wharton-Bickley (1946) and then moved to Grand Rapids in 1955.  During that time, she had two businesses (Ancestors Antique Shop and Custom Catering), donated time to several civic charities (American Red Cross, Blodgett Hospital Guild, Junior League, involved in Historic Preservation, founder of Voight House Living Museum, Gerald R. Ford Museum Committee Oval Office design, Save City Hall, Grand Rapids Children’s Reading Program and Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park Committee).  She also loved spending time in the Bahamas, gardening, golfing, skiing, tennis (Dingbats), playing bridge, caning chairs and needle point.  She was a member of Grace Episcopal and Mayflower Congregational Church.  A private family memorial service will be held later this summer in Ohio.
